The Brewery

Naganuma Sake Brewery

Located in Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, Naganuma Sake Brewery has a long history rooted in the local community. The brewery began producing sake in 1916 and continues to preserve traditional brewing techniques in its historic brewery, which is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. In 2010, the brewery introduced its sake brand, SOUMURA, with a philosophy of creating sake that people can enjoy time and time again. SOUMURA is characterized by its delicate aroma, clean and smooth texture, and deep umami, making it an excellent companion to a wide variety of dishes. The brewery carefully selects distinctive sake rice varieties, including Ushu Homare, Dewasansan, Dewanosato, and Sakemirai. Combined with the exceptionally soft natural groundwater of Nagai and meticulous, hands-on craftsmanship, these ingredients create sake that reflects the character of its land. By honoring tradition while pursuing balance, depth, and drinkability, Naganuma Sake Brewery continues to craft sake that brings out the best in both the drink and the food it accompanies.
